Founded in 1999 by author Marvin K. White and performer Cedric Brown, B/GLAM uses the arts a a vehicle both to build community between Black gay/same gender loving men, and to highlight our creativity to the broader community. B/GLAM is a fiscally-sponsored project of Intersection for the Arts.
During its existence, B/GLAM presented a number of events, including an international film night, an ongoing writers’ group, “Meet the Author” dinners, HIV prevention workshops, and an LGBT Kwanzaa program. Core events included a black gay arts festival (visual arts, performances, and spoken word), co-sponsored by the Queer Cultural Center, and the fall writing retreat held at the Headlands Institute.
In creating these programs, B/GLAM collaborated with numerous community agencies such as the Harvey Milk Institute, the Stop AIDS Project, Artists Television Access, the Black Dot Collective, and the San Francisco Main Library. We received past grant support from the Horizons Foundation and the San Francisco Foundation (through the Gateway Initiative).
B/GLAM continues to live on as a listserve for men primarily in the SF Bay Area. |
